Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) Oxygen Generation Technology

 

Pressure swing adsorption technology extracts high-purity oxygen from ambient air through selective adsorption by specialized solid media. For oxygen production via PSA, the core medium is a lithium X-type oxygen-generating molecular sieve (e.g., YC100/YC101/YC103 series), which selectively captures nitrogen from air under pressure swing conditions, enabling efficient oxygen separation.
 

Oxygen-Generating Molecular Sieve Mechanism


Oxygen-generating molecular sieves are advanced porous crystalline materials designed with high nitrogen-oxygen separation efficiency. When compressed air (composed mainly of nitrogen, oxygen, trace argon, and water vapor) is introduced into a sealed PSA oxygen generation column filled with these sieves, the medium exhibits strong adsorption affinity for nitrogen while allowing oxygen to pass through unimpeded.

 

This selective adsorption is driven by the sieve's unique structural and chemical properties: its tailored microporous structure and high nitrogen-oxygen separation coefficient (≥6.2) enable it to trap nitrogen molecules effectively (with a static nitrogen adsorption capacity of ≥22 ml/g). Oxygen molecules, due to weaker adsorption interactions and favorable molecular dynamics, remain unadsorbed and flow through as product gas. During the depressurization phase of the PSA cycle, the adsorbed nitrogen is desorbed, regenerating the sieve for continuous operation.
